Mohammed Usman, brother of UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, lived up to his famous family name with a devastating knockout in his promotional debut.

The heavyweight fighter scored a brutal one-punch knockout win over Zac Pauga to claim the Ultimate Fighter championship at UFC Vegas 59 on Saturday evening.

The Ultimate Fighter [TUF] is an MMA-based reality show that gives a group of fighters the chance to compete for a UFC contract, under the guidance of two established stars, who act as coaches.

During his journey to the final, Usman picked up decision wins over Mitchell Stipe and Eduardo Perez, but he took his fate into his own hands at the UFC APEX facility last night.

The 33-year-old landed a short-left hook early in round two that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas before he followed up with an unnecessary ground strike that separated Pauga from consciousness and officially ended the contest.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’, who was in attendance at UFC Vegas 59 to support his baby brother was delighted that the Usman name will forever be etched in Ultimate Fighter history.

Kamaru won the 21st season of the show back in 2015 before putting together a 14-fight win streak that has seen him pick up the 170lb title and defend it five times.

Inspired by his big brother, Mohammed began to pursue MMA in 2017 and has since scored eight wins with just two defeats during his career that hit new heights when he was crowned TUF 30 champion.

“He’s doing it. This is his moment. A new Ultimate Fighter, first brothers to do it in history,” Kamaru said of his brother post-fight.

On August 20, the Usman family will look to keep their winning run going when Kamaru defends his title against British fighter Leon Edwards in an eagerly anticipated rematch at UFC 278.

‘Rocky’ met Usman back in 2015, immediately after his stint on the Ultimate Fighter. The fighter from Birmingham slipped to a decision defeat on that occasion but has since put together an impressive nine-fight win steak.

He’ll be hoping to become just the second-ever British fighter to hold a UFC title in Salt Lake City later this month, following in the footsteps of MMA legend Michael Bisping who won the middleweight belt in 2016.
